Miss Lloyd’s class had an exciting visitor last Friday. Dr. Beech (Nathan’s Dad) came with his lab coat to demonstrate some very interesting experiments. He showed us how to find out if an egg is cooked without having to crack it, how to make an egg float AND how to make a whole egg go into a bottle! The children showed very good listening and thinking skills and were all keen to help out.
“The egg was on the bottom and then we put salt in [to the water] and it floated. The salt made the water heavier so it was heavier than the egg.” William G.
“There was a pop when he put the paper with the flame in the bottle and it was the egg going pop into the bottle. It squeezed in and popped!” Eva

In Foundation Stage we like to write everywhere! We have even found ways to write in the frost that forms on our benches…..
The children were excited on the first day of term to meet and talk to their new headteacher, Miss Liz Bassett. Miss Bassett comes to us from Fen Ditton Primary, where she was also head.
The children already know that their new head is an accomplished pianist and is keen to develop the school orchestra further. Everyone at ESJ is looking forward to getting to know her better!
Do you attend after-school clubs? If not perhaps this is the term when you will get involved!
There will be over 20 after-school clubs running during the spring term, with something for just about everyone. Art, music, sport, even philosophy; Mrs Symonds has got it covered! Clubs are good value and some are even free. Check out the full programme.
The complete spring programme and enrolment forms are available from the school foyer or you can download them from here by clicking the Read more:
Not only was Friday the last day of the autumn term but, more importantly for our school, it was Mrs Hogben's last day as our headteacher.

Events to mark the occasion went on in school throughout the day: for parents and governors in the morning and then in the afternoon for the children and staff, when we had the opportunity to say a fond thank you and farewell during a special end-of-term assembly.
Freya has written this article to tell you all about our World War 2 activity day, kindly organised by Ely museum.
In the morning we got ready to go, get all our stuff, you know that stuff.
After all that we set off. Not a bad morning.
When we got to the St Marys church we met Sally and Mike, who are friends who
Some new image galleries are now online. If you haven't discovered that part of our website yet then strap in! We have galleries going back to 2003 (which was about the time ESJ got its first digital camera).
New galleries are for Hilltop 2011, and the 'What does Christmas mean to you?' Christmas production photos from 2010.
There are also updates for recent Caythorpe Court trips. If you head over to Schoolbook you can also see a mini-preview of this year's productio nof A.D.
A full set of the photos from this year's performance, plus that of Foundation Stage/year 1's performance will be available to buy as a photo slide show disk that can be played on your computer. Look out for a form coming home this week.

On Thursday 17th November Max Monkey celebrated his 5th birthday. The children had lots of fun helping him prepare for his party especially making the cake! We had a busy week creating a chart of our birthdays, making patterned decorations and writing cards, shopping lists and party invitations. Thank you to everyone who sent in contributions to our party feast, we were all very hungry after a busy afternoon of dancing and games!

During our science topic on flowering plants we looked at the designs of the William Morris Company and used them to inspire our own flower designs.

We used small grids to pick out a small area of a design that we liked. We drew this on the grid and then enlarged the drawing to A3 size. The designs were painted and then finished with felt tip pen. What do you think?
The Gingerbread Man jumped right out of our storybook on Friday! He led us on a trail that went all around the playground, leaving clues for us to follow. We had to look at the numbers to make sure we were following the trail in order, read the tricky words and work out the rhyme that ended each clue. It needed good teamwork because we had to work together to read and solve the clues. Luckily we were able to find him and we put him back into the book so that we could finish the story!
