The Dangerous Dive by Jasmine / Year 5

It had been over 2 minutes when Ahmed had finally had it.

“Oh no,” he said, “Abdullah knows that he must never let go of the rope, something must be wrong! It’s all my fault, I let a child do the most important job on the ship.”

I stared at him in horror. How could he think I was a child, an irresponsible child, I was fifteen for goodness sake!

Then I had an idea. That was it, I was fifteen - old enough to go pearl diving with my father. The week before I had the honour of coming here, I had to pass a test. First you had to be able to stay under the water for up to 3 minutes, and secondly you had to be able to dive at least ten meters down under the deep blue sea.

“Ahemd, Ahemd remember the test we had to do before we came here?”

“Yes, didn’t you get A plus or something?”

“Exactly, we’re only in the shallow parts of the sea. I could dive down and check on father“.

“No I can’t afford to lose another one of you”

Suddenly a head popped up and I screamed with excitement but there was no need for it did not belong to my dear father. Suddenly a shark fin popped up and I commanded Ahmed to turn this ship around.

A couple of minutes later we arrived back at the island. My family and friends all crowded around me and I told my mother I wanted

to speak to her alone so she took me back to our cosy mud hut. “what is it” she said and I took her hand in mine “well” I said but before I could finish my sentence a tall man walked into the hut and pulled of his hood. Some how I seemed to recognize him, then I realised, it was him he was here but how oh it didn’t matter he was here still alive and that was all that mattered! I ran over and hugged him I screeched with joy and this time it was for real!
